Applications can span many scientific and engineering disciplines, such that implementation of an HPC infrastructure must consider a variety of algorithms, high-resolution modeling, and I/O demands. Most academic research environments also rely on cluster solutions to satisfy these diverse HPC application and data-intensive requirements.
